Official sources said the team visited two mining company sites in Lakkalli, but refused to divulge the nature of their findings. The team would visiting more mining areas in the district and submit its report to the Supreme Court, sources said. The team is led by Deputy Chief Conservator of Forest, U V Singh, who led the probe into illegal mining by Lokayukta in Karnataka.
Lokayukta Santosh Hegde submitted his report to the state government on July 27, which triggered a political uproar in the state and culminated in the resignation of B S Yeddyurappa as chief minister.
