The lake which had over flown by ‘shravana masa’ last year has not yet been filled this year, leaving farming community worried.

As many as 28 water bodies in the region will be full only if Madagadakere overflows. This had happened till last year, thereby bringing smiles on the faces of hundreds of farmers. But unfortunately, this year the lake is short by eight of inches to over flow.

Farmers say that since the coffee plantations in Chikmagalur have not received adequate rains on time, Madagadakere has not filled yet.

Seeing that the lake has not been filled yet, almost every farmer in the region has vowed to offer bagina to the lake if it gets filled at the earliest.

Farmers say that if Hebbe diversion project is implemented then there will be no shortage of water in Madagadakere. This will help acres of land used for cultivating areca, coconut etc.

On the other hand the local residents have also proposed that Madagadagere can be transformed into a good tourist spot if facilities like boating etc are started.
