Sohanlal Ramlal Khatri had left behind the bag containing the stolen jewellery in a private bus, before heading for Jaipur.

“Police have recovered all the stolen jewellery from a bus at Hospet on Monday,” DCP (South ) Sonia Narang told Deccan Herald.

Of the three teams formed to apprehend the culprit, one left for Bellary, the second to Ahmedabad and the third to Rajasthan.

Minutes after Abhushan Jewellers lodged a complaint, the police collected definite information about Khatri’s whereabouts. The police were tipped offabout Khatri travelling by a VRL bus to Hospet. The cops immediately alerted their counterparts in Hospet.

Khatri, realising that the cops were hot on his heels, probably got down at Chitradurga VRL point and made himself scarce, police said.

The Hospet police were waiting for the VRL bus at Hospet. A little later, the Jayanagar police, along with the owners of the shop, Mahaveer and Vishal, arrived and identified the jewellery.

Khatri allegedly pocketed the jewellery on Friday afternoon.

He told his owners he would be back after lunch, but did not return. The theft came to light when they verified the CCTV footages.
