The government lower primary schools  of Somanathpura hobli  have proven to be unique in their achievements under the programme.

Taluk BRC convenor  N Venkateshappa said the Nali-Kali programme has been implemented in about 298 government lower primary schools in entire Bagepalli taluk. The classrooms of every government lower primary school in the taluk are equipped with toys and informative charts.

The students are also taught lessons using information from computers. Instilling interest and enthusiasm among students was the chief method of teaching under the programme.

Teaching equipment

The Nali-Kali awning attracts a visitor who enters any classroom in the government lower primary schools of the Somanathpura hobli. Wall plates that are smartly set up, activity corners, puppets, learning cards are some of the teaching equipment used. The wall plates are especially used to hang posters to teach students through the ‘see-and-recognise’ method.

Toilets, water purifiers, rows of flower plants outside the school building, dining rooms are also maintained clean.

The most unique feature of the schools in the hobli, however, is the green flag symbolizing 100 per cent attendance of students. Any absence on the part of the students will bring a red flag to the school.

Students benefit

Venkateshappa said, “Students of classes 1 to 3 are taught only through learning cards, instead of the conventional text-books. The children develop an interest to learn through such novel methods.” Block Education Officer M R Krishnappa, who spoke to Deccan Herald, said the teaching programme has only helped improve the learning spirit and interest among students.

“This is an activity-based learning programme, which develops both the knowledge and capability of the students,” he said and explained that a method that actively includes students always works better at teaching.
