Private schools yet to receive guidelines

The Government schools, however, received the guidelines issued by the Commissioner of Public Instruction.

Principal Secretary of Department of Primary and Secondary Education, R G Nadadur said, "The circular issued to the schools have listed symptoms for H1N1 influenza and precautions that the teachers need to follow. If a child is found to show these symptoms, the teachers need to take the student to the nearest government hospital and ensure medical treatment. Depending on the seriousness of the illness, the child will then be referred to a bigger hospital."

He also said that a follow-up meeting with his counterpart in Department of Health and Family Welfare. "I believe that they have already sent a circular to the schools but they will send a follow-up circular now," Nadadur said. Baldwin Boys' High School has started a medical check-up for all its students since Monday. "We normally conduct routine health check-ups every year. But this time, we are taking extra care due to H1N1 influenza.," he said.

VET School Principal Lalitha Murthy said the school was sending children who are not keeping well to their houses. “There have been children have not come to school since 15 days due to some illness,” she said.
