Neil Darashah emerged the Champion Trainer of the Bangalore Summer Season on the back of having more second-place finishes after three trainers ended tied for first place here on the final day on Friday.
Darashah, who did not have a single runner on the final day, Irfan Ghatala -- who scored consecutive doubles on Thursday and Friday -- and Arjun Mangalorkar ended the season on 17 wins each. But as Darashah had more second places (18), he took home the coveted trainers’ championship.
The Champion Jockey title went the way of PS Chouhan, who comfortably held off the challenge of French professional Ladjadj Stephane despite drawing a blank on the final day. Chouhan finished with 24 winners to Stephane’s 19.
Kingfisher Derby winner Pronto Pronto expectedly took the Champion Horse honour while the Leading Owner category was won by Vijay Mallya’s United Racing. The Leading Tipster title went to Times Of India. In the final big race of the season, the Governor’s Cup (Grade III), Spearhead ran a perfect race to cruise home over 2400 metres. Big favourite Becket, who looked a pale shadow of his former self, yet again disappointed the punters by finishing a poor fourth in the six-horse field.
