The Sampigehalli police arrested Babu alias Chambar (31) of Rachenahalli, Anees Ahmed (30) of Devarajeevanahalli, Mohammed Mazhar (32) of KG Halli, Gerald (30) of Rachenahalli and Mounu alias Maqsood (26) of DJ Halli in connection with the murder of Chand Pasha (38), a resident of Kenchappa Road in Frazer Town. Assailants had stabbed Chand Pasha in 13 places and the body was found on August 2 at Anjanadri Layout.

Police said after returning from a Gulf country, Chand Pasha was practising witchcraft. When Chand Pasha was living at Venkateshapura, he had a rivalry with another witchdoctor, Syed Asgar Ali. On July 3 when Syed Asgar fell ill, he blamed Chand Pasha for his condition and sought the help of his friends Babu, Anees Ahmed, Mohammed Mazhar, Gerald and Mounu. They then planned to teach Chand Pasha a lesson.

On August 2, the five abducted Chand Pasha and took him to Anjanadri Layout. They wanted to thrash him but when they saw Chand Pasha uttering some hymns, they murdered him, fearing that the black magic would leave them in the same condition as Syed Asgar had undergone.
