Bangladesh begums unite in tragedy

Zia for the first time visited Hasina’s private residence hours after the death of the premier’s nuclear scientist husband Wajed Mia.
The media cameras were not allowed inside, but witnesses and political sources said Zia could not also hold her tears as they hugged each other, in an unprecedented gesture since they emerged as archrivals in Bangladesh politics in 1980s.
Zia was received by senior Awami League member and deputy leader of the house Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury as she reached Hasina’s private at around 9:00 pm and first went to see Mia’s body. She then went upstairs and met Hasina and consoled her during her 25 minute stay there.
