We can't lose Anna, says Hegde

Addressing supporters of anti-corruption campaign at the Freedom Park, an emotionally-charged Santosh Hegde said: “The nation cannot afford to lose Anna Hazare. He is our leader. He is responsible for igniting the people of the nation against corruption, which has now snowballed into a movement.”

Expressing happiness over the hastening of the process, he cautioned the people to remain wary about false assurances made by the Centre.

“Our movement shall continue until our goals are achieved. Even after Anna Hazare ends his fast, the protest shall continue till the Jan Lokpal Bill is passed. I, hereby, request you to take part in the protests at the Freedom Park every day to keep the  momentum,” said Justice Hegde.

The nation is in need of several reforms like electoral  and police reforms. Hence, there is a need to keep the movement alive and going. Till the time our goals are achieved, the people should continue to protest within the framework of the Constitution, he added.

“We have insisted that the Prime Minister, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, two Supreme Court and two High Court judges, Comptroller and Auditor General and the Chief Election Commissioner be the members of the panel to appoint the Lokpal. But the Centre is dissatisfied with the composition and wants only two judges in the panel. Though we may concede to that, we are opposed to having cabinet secretaries as nominees,” said Hegde.
