Rain reduces one-day match to Twenty20

Last Updated 26 August 2011, 18:47 IST

The umpires carried out the first inspection at 4.00 pm, and were not happy with the wet patches in the outfield, and they were also concerned about the soggy practice pitches to the right of the Frank Woolley stand on the pavilion side. The two officials then held two more inspections at 5.00 pm and 6.00 pm before deciding to have a T20 tie if things improved to their satisfaction after another check to 6.30 pm. With the conditions getting better, the match was scheduled for a 7.30 pm start. Kent skipper Geraint Jones won the toss and elected to bowl first as a big cheer went off at the ground.

India had two changes to their side that played in the practice one-dayer against Sussex. Rahul Dravid had come in the place of Sachin Tendulkar, while paceman Praveen Kumar made way for R Vinay Kumar. Dravid, who played for Kent in 2000, slipped into nostalgia as he went on a trip around the ground, observing changes and meeting old friends. “It’s great coming back to a place which brings back so many memories,” said Dravid, who was presented with a cap to mark his return to the venue.

India 115 for 2

India reached 115 for 2 in 15 overs against Kent Spitfires in a T20 match at the St Lawrence Ground on  Friday.  Virat Kohli (69) and Rohit Sharma (24) were at the crease.
