<p>Netizens suffering from cyber security breach can now be relived as the Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Limited (KEONICS) Cyber Forensic Investigation Division will be launched soon in the city.<br /><br />KEONICS Cyber Lab operated by its Master Franchisee Mandamus Info Knowledge Consultants (Bangalore) Pvt Ltd launched its capacity unit building in July at Ram Bhavan Complex. Since then, 33 law enforcement personnel have been trained in various fields of cyber investigation.<br /><br />Now the lab is planning to open an exclusive cyber forensic investigation division which will come up within two months and will cost up to Rs 25 lakhs. Speaking to Deccan Herald, Mandamus Info Knowledge Consultants (Bangalore) Pvt Ltd CEO Kishan T S says that the division will have more than 15 investigation equipment such as Data acquisition tool, Email investigation tool, Online investigation tool, Analysis tool, Mobile phone investigation tool and others.<br /><br />Online crimes<br />Speaking on the cyber crime trend in Mangalore, he says many suffer from the Social networking sites being faked and also email IDs being hacked. A tab will be kept on such security breaches along with phishing, morphing, online banking fraud, spreading terrorism and threatening messages online.<br /><br />Many also fall target to emails where people say they want help in transferring money and promising the helper a huge chunk and also some emails telling people they have won a huge amount of money in an online lottery.<br /><br />“Responding to such kind of emails is dangerous as people may be asked to give out their online banking information or may be asked to deposit a certain amount of money. In case the money is transferred within India, it can be tracked but if it goes outside the country, then the central government has to be involved, making the procedure extremely difficult,” says Kishan and adds it is best that the public don’t respond to such messages.<br /><br />KEONICS will also open other cyber labs in Bangalore, Gulbarga and either in Hubli or Dharwad. At present training programmes are being given to legal and police fraternity. There are plans to conduct sensitization programmes on cyber safety to general public, he says. The main aim of KEONICS is to provide training, investigation support to agencies and entities in prevention, investigation and prosecution of economic and hi-tech crime. Investigations will be done at a nominal fee, he informs.<br /><br />Speaking to Deccan Herald, Mangalore Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh reveals that a batch of cops has already been trained at KEONICS. “We can take assistance from them in cracking cyber cases, however we won’t be handing them any cases,” he says.<br /><br /></p>
