'Do not close down Vijanan Industries'

It has provided employment to 400 persons, says Tharadevi

In a press statement, she has said that a delegation consisting of the leaders of Vijnan Industries Mazdoor Sangha led by the Congress met the Defence Minister and explained him the status of the industry.

“The Minister has promised of initiating measures to save the industry. The only medium scale industry of the district, Vijanan Industries has been functioning for the several decades and has provided employment to more than 400 persons. Citing reasons for loss and technical faults, BEML has recommended closing down the industry,” she alleged.

“Earlier during my tenure as the MP, talks were on to close down the industry for incurring loss. But after requesting the then Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao, the decision was taken back and the industry was converted into sub branch of BEML,”she said.

She further informed that they have convinced the Defence Minister on the profit maintained by the industry from 1995 to 2010. Vijnan Industries which produces eight thousand tons of steel can fetch profit if the industry is modernised and expert staff are recruited.

“If Vijnan Industries is closed down, then 25 other small industries which are linked to Vijnan too will have to be closed down, due to which several persons will lose their employment. So the Minister has been asked to intervene immediately and the respond to the demands of the workers,” she said.

Mazdoor Sangha President C Govindan, office bearers H M Hanumanthappa, Y B Maheshwarappa, Ponnuswami, G Kumar and others were part of the delegation.
