In the presence of Kumari Selija, Union Minister for Tourism and Culture and Janardhan Reddy, the tourism minister of Karnataka; the evening began with an all woman Dolukunita performance. While Kumari Selja spoke about the trends in the travel and tourism sector and also extended her support to this initiative, Janardhana Reddy emphasised on the developments that are going to take place in Karnataka in terms of infrastructure and increased security for the tourists. “Karnataka has a huge potential for tourism with places like Hampi, Bellur and Coorg. As for Bangalore we are soon going to start a night safari at the Bannerghatta Park,” he added. 

With help of people’s votes and the recommendation of a special jury, there were 41 awards given out. Out of which Bangalore received the Best Travel Destination City award and Mysore received the Best Weekend Getaway South award. The city’s Leela Palace that played host to this event, did take a grand bow as the Best Luxury Hotel in India. Rajan Momin, Deputy head Maharashtra tourism on winning the best hill station award for Mahabaleshwar said, “It’s an honour for us and the State as a whole to receive this award. This award was given for the best hill destination, Mahabaleshwar.”

The evening saw many more awards given out and brought together many giants in the tourism industry under one roof.
