The minister said the Delhi police network was strengthened and put on high alert after that. In a statement made in Parliament two and half  hours after the blast took place at the Delhi High Court, Chidambaram said  it was not possible at “this stage to identify the group” behind the attack.

He said the government was “determined to track down the perpetrators of this horrific crime and bring them to justice.”

Making identical statements in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha, Chidambaram said Delhi is a target of terrorist groups and when Parliament is in session and during certain other times of the year, the capital is placed on high alert.

“Intelligence agencies constantly share intelligence inputs with the Delhi Police. Intelligence pertaining to threats emanating from certain groups was shared with the Delhi Police in July, 2011,” the minister said.

He appealed to Parliament and the country to “remain resolute and united” at this point of time.

Senior BJP leader L K Advani, JD (U) MP Sharad Yadav, SP MP Mulyam Singh Yadav and  CPM MP Basudev Acharya joined Chidambaram in condemning the terror attack.

Outside Parliament, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj took on the government for not installing CCTV on the high court premises.
