Tardy road work slows down traffic in HSR Layout

Palike blames lack of cooperation among civic agencies for delay in project

In the absence of a pavement, the pedestrians have to walk on the earth piled up on the road.

“The Forum junction is chaotic especially during weekends. The top layer of the road has been chipped off and when it rains, people cannot cross the road easily. The road widening project has left no footpath. People are forced to walk on rubbles here,” said Santosh, who commutes daily on this road.

Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials, in charge of road widening project, say that some of the other civic agencies like the KPTCL and BWSSB are not cooperating in shifting their utilities which has delayed the project.

Horrid time

Some of the roads in Ejipura have been ruined due to rains where motorists are having a tough time juggling with potholes. Heavy water flow, due to rains, through the stretch of Ejipura Main Road leading to Infant Jesus Church junction in Austin Town have caused damage to the roads.

Five more years!

Local corporator S Vijayan says that the road-widening project will take at least five to six years.

“The Lower Aagram Road has many potholes which are slowly turning into huge pits.  Residents and commuters have complained to me. Using the  corporator’s fund, I am planning to fill them soon,” he said.

Ongoing infrastructure work is also one of the reasons for bad roads in the City. Wherever the Metro, flyovers, underpasses and road-widening projects are undertaken, the condition of roads has gone from bad to worse.

Take the example of HSR Layout Sector I, 27th main, which has to bear the brunt of traffic diversion due to the ongoing flyover construction work executed by Bangalore Development Authority (BDA).

“The 27th main road is in a pathetic state. Despite complaints, no action has been taken.  First it was the traffic diversion and now even the bus routes are diverted. Later KPTCL started laying high tension wires followed by BWSSB laying huge pipes. The roads are dug up everywhere and not restored properly. When it rains, it is a real mess for both motorists and pedestrians,” said Chennakesava, secretary of HSR Layout Resident Welfare Association.
