'Lend supporting hand to depressed class'

Last Updated 09 September 2011, 17:29 IST

Speaking after inaugurating the three-day workshop on “An orientation to psychiatry” organised by Dr A V Baliga Group of Institutions here at Haradi, he said if some issue creeps in against corruption, all that people do is to target government officials. They behave as if they are not part of the government. The government is nothing but the entity comprising the whole society. Most of the government officials work under pressure and they form only 15 per cent of the entire population, he added.

Stating that being an IAS Officer is one among many others offering opportunities to serve society, Reju emphasised on the need for individuals to come up with strong desire to work for downtrodden mass.

He said it is absolute ridiculous that an IAS officer can serve society better than all. Students or whoever enters the field of social cause should have the thirst to serve poor and those who are away from the mainstream of the society. The disabled people should be recognised and attempts should be made to bring them to the mainstream.

He said that he has doubt over the credibility of NGOs working for social cause. They are at the worst when they are out of way, he added.

At the onset of uncontrolled globalisation and commercialisation, a sort of propaganda has been created for stereotyped public. “With the onslaught of advertisements and other media hypes, we have failed to recognise the differences in the society.”

As governance mechanism is not able to cater to the needs of all owing to many constraints, people should come forward to lend support to the depressed class.

In this background, psychiatry is a relevant subject, where the students should come out with the attempts to take the disabled class along with the pace of life, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, wellknown Psychiatrist Dr P V Bhandari regretted that the counsellors who come out with degrees lack practicality. Students don’t have any basic knowledge of practical experience with respect to their field, he added.
