Ajmal, his relative who was riding pillion, was killed on the spot while Aiyazuddin is battling for life at  Apollo Hospital here. Aiyazuddin (19), a budding cricketer, was severely injured while riding a 1,000 CC Suzuki motorcycle on the city outskirts. The accident occurred around 9 am near the Puppalguda toll gate on the eight-lane Outer Ring Road where two-wheelers and autos are prohibited.

According to police, Aiyazuddin was riding the bike at a very high speed and could not control the vehicle which crashed into the median leading to severe head injuries.

Both were admitted to Apollo Hospital where Ajmal, the grandson of former Congress MP Khaleelur Rehman was declared dead on arrival.Aiyazuddin, the younger son of Azhar (from his first wife Naureen), played for Hyderabad-19 cricket team and also attended the camp held in Kolkata last year. Dr Mahesh Joshi, Chief Surgeon at Apollo Hospital, said the injured were brought to hospital after 9 am.

“Both had gone into a state of cardiac arrest. In spite of our best efforts we could not revive Ajmal. Aiyazuddin has suffered serious injuries on his head, chest and abdomen and is at present undergoing surgery. His condition is very very critical. We are trying our best to revive  him,” Dr Joshi added.

Azharuddin, a Congress MP who is presently in England, is yet to reach Hyderabad. Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy, MIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi, MP  G  Vivek and cricketer VVS Laxman visited the hospital.

Mohammad Ayazuddin, a promising cricketer in Hyderabad school cricket, is the younger of Azharuddin’s two sons from his former wife Noureen. Ayaz, a second year B Com student at St Mary’s College, is said to resemble his father in his batting style and is known for his elegant and wristy stroke play. Ayaz is also an useful off-break bowler.

However, not much is known about his progress as a player since his school days. His elder brother, Asaduddin, gained attention in 2008 when he was selected for trials conducted by Indian Premier League franchise Kolkata Knight Riders.
