An organisation should be formed on the lines of Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) to look into the activities of Tulu cinema industry and the association should work in close connection with the KFCC, said ‘Oriyardori Asal’ fame playwright and Tulu theatre artiste Vijay Kumar Kodialbail.

In an interaction with the media persons on Thursday, Vijay Kumar said that making of Tulu cinema is challenging as the producer undergoes harassment in the process.

“As per the KFCC rule, the dance artistes and other technical staff playing specific roles in the regional language movie should be the members of the associations connected to KFCC. Due to this, the Tulu cinema maker is either not allowed to utilise the services of the artistes from coastal region or even though he uses them, in the placard, the credit is to be given to a technician who has not really worked for the movie, which is not fair.

Therefore, an Association should be formed for Tulu cinema which would also help to cut down the Tulu cinema production expenditure to a great extent,” he said.

Citing one of the reasons for the lack of growth of Tulu cinema industry, Kodialbail said that absence of unity among the Tulu theatre cum cinema directors is one of the major reasons for the slow progress of Tulu cinema industry. “United effort is necessary to take Tulu cinema to greater heights,” he said.

Role of publicity

When asked the reason for the success of Oriyardori Asal movie, which has already run 100 days in Adlabs and Jyothi theatre in Mangalore, Vijay Kumar said that publicity played a huge role in the success of his cinema. “Several good Tulu cinemas have been made earlier including ‘Dever,’ but they failed because of lack of publicity. As far as ‘Asal’ is concerned, I stressed on publicity aspect,” he said.

He denied the allegations made on him for ridiculing Bhootaradhane in Oriyardori Asal. “Being a staunch believer of Dhaivaradhane, I had no intention to make fun of the practise. I have not depicted Bhootaradhane in a bad light, but I have only picturised the nature of human beings who comment and make fun of everything.”

Though the famed director is now receiving several offers to make Tulu cinemas, he said that he would be choosy henceforth.

“I would like to break my own record in my next movie, so I will be thoughtful in doing a next Tulu movie,” said Kodialbail.

Director Rajashekhar, artiste Naveen D Padil and others were present.
