Interest waiver for SSIs gets nod

Law Minister Suresh Kumar said total loan availed by these units was to the tune of Rs 23 crore and the interest accrued Rs 83 crore.

The interest amount would be waived off if the units repay the principal amount by December 31 this year. Seventy-five per cent of the interest would be waived off if the principal amount is paid by March 31, 2012.

In case of SC/STs and minority applicants, the deadline for the interest waiver scheme is September next year, Suresh Kumar said.

The Cabinet approved the National Rural Livelihood Mission, which proposes to reduce poverty among the rural BPL families by promoting diversified and gainful self-employment and wage employment opportunities, for implementation in Belgaum, Dharwad, Gulbarga, Mysore and Tumkur districts.

The Cabinet approved a grant of Rs five crore for providing drinking water facilities on the 300-acre campus of the Central University, Gulbarga.
