'Makkala Dasara' begins on Sept 29

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, children’s Dasara sub-committee president Chikkamma said ‘Makkala Dasara’ would be held between September 29 and October 3 at Jagan Mohan Palace auditorium.

Primary education minister Vishveshwara Heggade Kageri would inaugurate the five-day programme. Medical education and district in-charge minister S A Ramdas would also participate.

On September 29, students from first to 10th standard can participate in a fancy dress competition. The day would also witness a Yakshagana performance by students of Yaskha Shikshana Trust, Udupi.

Folk dance competition
Giving importance to folk dances, ‘Makkala Dasara’ would include a folk dance competition on September 30. Specially-abled children would showcase a folk-dance on the occasion.
A Bharathanatya competition and a ventriloquism show by Sumaraj is scheduled for October 1.

Painting competition for specially-abled children and cultural programme would be conducted on October 2. Snake Shyam is set to captivate children and improve awareness about reptiles among them on October 2.

On October 3, a yoga competition is being organised. Also, Sridhar would unravel mysteries of miracles to the children. The valedictory, which includes distribution of prizes would also be held on the day.

Chikkamma said taluk-level competitions have already been held and the winners of these competitions would be given an opportunity to participate in ‘Makkala Dasara’.
Zilla panchayat CEO G Sathyavathi, children’s Dasara sub-committee vice president Gurumallamma and Mariyamma were present.
