Members of the Central Union of Hotel Labourers staged a protest demanding that World Tourism Day be renamed Hotel Labourers Demand Day. The protesters raised slogans against hotel owners and the governments.

“The hotel owners have not taken any measure to address our problems. The Union and the State governments have neglected the problems of labourers in hotel industry. The tourism industry is flourishing every year and the hotel workers are working hard accordingly. But, the exploitation of the labourers has continued,” complained, G R Shivashankar, the Union secretary.

The Union members have decided to celebrate World Tourism Day as Hotel Labourers Demand Day.

Garment workers

Garment Labour Union-Karnataka workers took out a rally urging authorities to reopen Milton Private Limited Garment immediately. The agitators complained that the firm management closed down operations on September 12 without seeking the permission of the government.

This action has left nearly 400 workers jobless. The sudden closure amounts to violation of Section 25 FFA of the Industrial Disputes Act, they alleged and sought the immediate intervention of the government.
