US pressing on Pakistan

Sir,
This is with reference to ‘
US pressing Pak hard on Saeed’. US envoy Timothy Roemer’s assertion of booking Hafiz Saeed and the perpetrators of the 26/11 Mumbai attack was a shot in the arm. More so this assurance came upon while presenting credentials to the President Pratibha Patil. We are just couple of months away from the first anniversary of the ghastly crime committed by Pakistan and appallingly we continue to be in the process of exchanging dossiers.

Unnecessary media coverage

Crime and suicides are disgusting and shocking, whoever may be the victims.  The recent incident of the harassed husband committing suicide was shocking too.  However, the way this incident was given front page coverage by a newspaper was disgusting. And the words meaning now it is not just the Indian women being harassed and committing suicides, but the husbands too were not palatable by a civilized society! Any kind of exploitation is deplorable, whether the men or the women are at the receiving end.

Everyday, hundreds of women are being burnt alive or getting murdered or being forced to commit suicide by their violent husbands and in-laws. These cases have become routine third page news reports.  These are just a few that get reported, while hundreds of cases go unregistered.  Such being the case, what was the speciality in the incident of an exploited husband committing suicide due to the harassment of his wife?  Are we still not mature enough to view this also as one of the hundreds of cases that are being covered everyday?

J&K politics and Shopian case

This refers to the media reports of issue of Shopian murder case getting worse. The Jammu and Kashmir politics in the case has become murkier with the things getting ever worse than earlier as the culprits and the samples deemed to verify the facts have been proved in negative and have become difficult to bring them to book. The issue has hindered the development processes and discussions in the assembly have been put off with lot of deviations.

Hope the Centre and the State government work in tandem to halt such deviations and devote more time for some worthwhile aspects which are more affiliated on lines of development of the State and its people which is for the past decades have not seen much development with lot of infiltrations from across the border giving rise to militancy and other disturbing activities. Hope things such as these will see some good light in the affairs of the State.

What a great tragedy indeed!

Sir,
There were only two laboratories equipped to test the swab samples for the whole of India. Although late, it has now been raised to 16 they say—information that cannot be verified in a very short time. It was also reported that in Mumbai representatives of private hospitals were invited for a meeting to discuss treatment of swine flu in private hospitals. It is unknown whether these hospitals have isolation wards but all of them are centrally air conditioned — maybe the operation theatres have a separate system. Instead of paying attention to important matters of health, it is very saddening to read that our people’s representatives spend time discussing in Lok Sabha, whether a question is to be replied in Hindi or English with speaker settling the issue saying that, since the question is in English, it can be replied in English. What a great tragedy indeed.

SC concerned over poor monsoon price rise

It is the matter of grave concern that close on the heels of 47districts in UP declared as drought hit areas comes 30districts of Bihar as drought hit areas declared by Bihar CM Nitesh Kumar. Maharashtra is not far off to follow them. Hence in such a scenario price rise across board would be inevitable. Just like quadrangle highways proposed by during the Vajpayee NDA Govt the planning Commission had passed proposals to join major rivers, canals etc so as to avoid facing drought like situation in the country in future. Govt must stress more on irrigation, digging bore wells, rain water harvesting instead of constructing building statues parks etc.

Stop dubbing films from other languages
Kannada Film Industries' fear over screening of other language films is baseless. It is seen that even after bringing in some strict measures by exclusive rights for screening Kannada films, many films miserably failed commercially. But, a not so well advertised film like Mangaru Male saw an unprecedented success in box office. So, if the producers give good movies worth watching instead of following some repeated tracks like copying other successful films from all languages, imaginary box office formula etc., Kannada film will continue to fail commercially.
