The vehicle, which was designed and developed by the company’s Chennai-based research team, was also simultaneously launched in South Africa and in other metros in India.
“Nearly 90 per cent of the vehicle is of indigenous content. XUV500 has many features that you get only get in the top end cars. It offers the best deal at the quoted prices” said M&M Senior Vice President Marketing Vivek Nayer.
The company has invested Rs 650 crore to develop this vehicle and set up a capacity of 2,000 vehicles per month at its Chakan plant near Pune.
XUV is powered by a 2.2-litre diesel CRDi engine producing 140 bhp of power and 330 Nm peak torque. The premium features include all wheel drive, electronic stability programme (ESP), ABS, six airbags, hill hold control and hill descent control.
