Jeev, who shot 73 in the first round, began in style with birdies on second and third holes. He built on that with yet another one on seventh. Further birdies on 10th and 12th meant he was five-under for the day and at that stage he was in top-10 and looking good to go better.

But then trouble struck in the form of bogeys on the 13th, 15th and 18th and he dropped to 70 to be tied 26th.

Korea’s Bae Sang-moon (67) moved into shared lead with Akinori Tani (69, 67) at eight-under 136.

Gangjee disappoints

Indian golfer Rahil Gangjee carded a modest two-under 70 in the opening round of the WNBGolf Classic (Nationwide Tour) to be placed tied 66th at Texas, United States.

The Indian, playing in his rookie year, needs a few good finishes to have a shot at finishing in top-25 to get a PGA Tour card for 2012. Daniel Chopra, however, had a superb start with a five-under 67 to be placed 10th.

Meanwhile, Arjun Atwal made an impressive comeback after a long break with an flawless five-under 66 that gave him a share of the 13th place after the first round of the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open golf tournament in Las Vegas.

Atwal, who exited after the first event of the four-week Fedex Cup play-off, started sedately with a series of eight consecutive pars before an eagle on the par-five ninth set him off at TPC Summerlin.
