KSP seeks action against Vitla college principal

Kannada optional subject cancelled unilaterally
Last Updated 13 August 2009, 17:18 IST

“The principal’s gesture of cancelling the subject without consulting even the department head or the college development board shows her negligence towards Kannada. The unfortunate development has taken place in the Kannada Implementation Year as declared by the Kannada Development Authority,” said S Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, the President of DK Kannada Sahitya Parishat in a release.

“There is a clear instruction from the Collegiate Education Department that there is no lower limit to the admissions for the Optional Kannada subject. But Principal Laila Mary George has taken the decision of cancelling the subject by giving the reason that there are only five aspirants for the course,” Kalkura said.

The Principal in a letter to the Collegiate Education Department dated May 16, 2009, had urged that the Kannada optional subject be cancelled, and it should give permission to start Hindi optional.

However, in a reply dated August 6, the Department informed the principal that there is no problem in continuing with the subject despite less number of takers.
