JOIN USAccording to sources, villagers spotted the wild animal and informed the police. As the Forest Department staff arrived at the spot and attempted to catch the big cat, it pounced on Nissar, an employee. Forest watcher Madegowda who came to rescue was also not spared. Villagers killed the leopard later by hitting it with clubs. Both the injured have been treated at Yalandur Hospital and are stated to be out of danger. The villagers have claimed that they killed leopard for self defence.
The leopard had strayed into the village on Thursday night and preyed on a dog. It might have stayed back in search of a prey. The postmortem was performed at the village.
Elephant electrocuted
An elephant was electrocuted in Kaniyapura village of Gundlupet taluk in Chamarajnagar on Saturday. The incident occurred as the pachyderm tried to enter an agriculture field by crossing the fence, powered by both solar energy and electricity. Range Forest Officer Mahesh visited the spot.
