“Scams have psychologically weakened the UPA and it is a fact,” a senior leader of the Congress said in a candid confession, when asked about the NCP chief’s remarks.

Speaking about judiciary becoming proactive during the UPA-2 government, the leader said “whenever government becomes weak judiciary steps in; it happened in 1970s and it is happening now.” Asked whether Pawar, who is Union Agriculture Minister, is advocating that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh should be replaced by saying Central leadership should intervene, the Congress source said “Pawar will of course want PM to be changed, but when time is right for him as he has an ambition for that post.”

Pawar on Tuesday said that the UPA 2 government started with controversies surrounding decisions taken earlier.

“This statement is nothing more than bargaining tactics. He is either planning to ask something more in the government or trying to stop some enquiry against any of his leader,” another leader said.
