BJP state president D V Sadananda Gowda, on Monday, said that he made efforts to keep the couple together. He spoke to Mahender and tried to solve differences. “I spoke to Mahender many times in this regard. I tried to get in touch with Shruthi over phone also. But she did not come on line. Later I learnt that she was not in a position to change her mind. I gave up my efforts,” he said.
Asked whether she would be removed from her position, Gowda said that the party would take a decision after the election results are out. “I will discuss the matter with the Chief Minister and other senior leaders of the party before taking a decision,” he said. According to sources, many leaders in the party have shared their disappointment on the Shruthi’s decision, with the party’s state president and appealed him that she should not be continued as chairperson of the Women and Child Development Corporation.
The BJP government appointed her chairperson of the corporation only hours before the Central Election Commission declared dates for the Lok Sabha polls. However, she could not take charge as the model code of conduct was in force.
