Declining concern for the society lamented

Speaking after unfurling the National Tricolour at the Independence Day celebration here on Saturday, he said that personal interests and nepotism were taking precedence over the wider perspective of national progress. “People at the dawn of independence had hoped that everyone in the country will get employment, food and shelter and that a life of self-dignity would be theirs. However, the dream is yet to be realised,” he lamented.

The concern for the society at large is taking backseat with people giving preference for their welfare rather than that of the country. The ambition of building a powerful nation has thus remained a dream, Reddy noted.

Legislator N Sampangi said the the Congress government at the Centre has formulated various pro-people schemes. Labourers are being provided work at their villages through National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, he pointed out.

Taluk Panchayat executive officer Dr Srinivas, Zilla Panchayat assistant executive engineer Nagappa, Public Works Department assistant executive engineer J Krishnamurthy, Block Education Officer Chandrashekhar Babu and others were present on the occasion.
