Madesh, the AIADMK councillor of Tharamangalam in the district, kidnapped women councillors Chitra and Shanthi and fellow councillor Manickam in a car yesterday, police said. He allegedly kidnapped them to ensure their support in the election for the post of Panchayat vice-president, they said.
Madesh was eventually arrested yesterday and a case under section 363 of the IPC (kidnapping) was registered against him.
