The arrested are Wahab from Mumbai, who is said to be an associate of Chota Shakeel and Salam and Basheer Maindargi from Aland in Gulbarga district. All the three have been remanded to judicial custody.

Following interception of telephonic conversation and other clue the three have been arrested on Monday at Aland and a pistol, 5 kgs of ganja, and a number of SIM cards have been recovered from them, said SP B A Padmanayana.

The alleged plot to eliminate a Gulbarga lawyer who is said to be a supporter of Chota Rajan is in retaliation to the recent murder of a Mangalore advocate Naushad Kasim by the members of the Chota Rajan gang.

Wahab was arrested in connection with a road robbery case in Aland and was convicted also.

He had appealed in the High Court against the verdict of the trial court. Wahab had reportedly sought financial assistance from his uncle in Bangladesh to meet out his expenses of legal battle.

His uncle directed Wahab to the associates of Chota Shakeel in Mumbai.

Supari killing
The gang agreed to pay money if Wahab could murder an advocate of Gulbarga. Accordingly Wahab hatched a plot to kill the advocate with the assistance of two of his companions of Aland, the police sources said. The miscreants wanted to trigger communal tension by killing the advocate. The district police have constituted a special team headed by Aland DySP Jayaram to probe into the case, he said.
