CPK to chair Kannada Sahitya Sammelan at Gangavati

The Sammelana will be held at Gangavati in Koppal district for three days from December 9.

Addressing the media, KSP president Nallur Prasad said that the committee had arrived at an unanimous decision to choose Krishnakumar to chair the Sammelana.

Prasad said that CPK, well-versed in Kannada, English and Sanskrit, has contributed over 300 works in Kannada. CPK hails from Mysore and is the recipient of the Attimabbe award, the Karanataka Sahitya Academy award and the Rajyotsava award.

The Sammelana will be held at the Chennabasappa Mantapa in Gangavati and the main stage has been christened ‘Kumararama’. Prasad said that the Sammelana would deliberate on the Government’s controversial move to merge lower primary schools having less than five students with higher primary schools. The focus will also be on improving the condition of Kannada medium schools in border areas, and other issues related to the language.

The State government has set aside Rs one crore for the event.

The district administration has been carrying out development work at a cost of Rs 13.70 crore in Gangavati. Prasad said the government employees have contributed their one day’s salary totalling to Rs 35 lakh for the event.
