Mazy's Muddle: Sporting numbers

Last Updated 10 November 2011, 14:30 IST

You see, I’m the sports monitor and one of my duties is to make sure everyone attends practice sessions. In our school, we have mixed teams, and girls and boys play together. And everyone has to attend practice sessions. If a student wants to be on the school team, he or she not only has to be a good player, but must also be regular, follow rules, and be a team player.

Our class has 32 students, exactly the same number of teams that played in the last four world cups. And each of us represents a country that plays in the FIFA World Cup. During the football season, our teachers start using football to get us to learn geography, physics, languages and even maths! I must say I enjoy this season! If 13 of us represent European countries, can you tell me what percentage of students forms the remaining areas?

Out of the maze: 59.37%. If Europe is represented by 13 of us, then the rest of the countries are represented by 32 minus 13, that is, 19 students. 19 divided by 32 multiplied by 100 gives the answer.
