The employees have several demands including, upper revision of wages and absorption of officers into the telecom company from the Department of Telecommunication.

The Karnataka Circle of the United Forum of BSNL Unions and Associations of Non-Executives took part in the 48-hour strike. The stir, which commenced on Tuesday midnight brought work in many service sectors of BSNL to a standstill.

Casual and contract workers of BSNL endorsed the strike. “There was 95 percent participation in the strike and this affected work in the call centres, service centres, and maintenance segments,” claimed State Secretary G K Gundanna.

Most of the striking employees belong to Group C and Group D divisions.
BSNL officials said that though normal services would not be affected, there would be a delay in attending to fault repairs and complaints as all the linemen and repair personnel were taking part in the strike. Normal services are expected to resume on Friday.

Employees took out a silent procession in front of the BSNL office. The strike will conclude on Thursday midnight.
