Jayalalitha to appear in court today

In the first two sittings on October 20 and 21, Jayalalitha had answered 570 questions out of the 1,200 framed by the judge in the 15-year-old case. She will appear before Special Judge B M Mallikarjunaiah at a make-shift court hall close to Central Jail at Parappana Agrahara.

The judge had, on October 21 posted the matter to November 8, but Jayalalitha moved the Supreme Court seeking exemption from personal appearance and had sought permission to file written replies.

However, the court rejected her plea and directed the Bangalore special court to complete the recording of her statement in a day or two during her next appearance. Following this, the special court fixed November 22 for the recording of Jayalalitha’s statement.

In view of her appearance before the court, prohibitory order under Section 144 of the CrPC has been imposed in the Parappana Agrahara, Madiwala and Electronics City police station limits from 6 am to 12 am (Wednesday), the police said.
