Then everybody around her told her to face the camera. Though Vaishali did not want to be in the glamour world, fate had other plans. Before she knew it, she was walking the runway for the ‘Wills Fashion Week’ in Delhi. In the City for a fashion show recently, Vaishali recollects how she was not nervous at all making that first walk on the runway. “I was amazed at the confidence I had. I felt like I was meant to do this,” she says. “It was only after that show when I started taking modelling as a serious career option for myself. I never realised the potential I had and opportunities poured in,” says Vaishali, who is now a full-time model in Mumbai.
Enjoying every bit of the profession Vaishali says modelling does get hectic with its late nights and constant travelling. “In this career, there are a lot of temptations be it the fancy food, after-parties or alcohol. These are around all the time. But it’s up to a model to resist the temptation and make the right choice. I can’t afford to have such a lifestyle. I stick to my job and head straight home. As glamourous as my job sounds, my life revolves around my shows and the gym,” she says.
Ask her if she ever plans to take her career to the next level by taking part in a beauty pageant or movies and she replies with a strict ‘no’. “I find the concept of a beauty pageant really funny. I don’t know why girls want their beauty to be judged. It’s not my cup of tea.
Even when it comes to movies, I’m not that keen on signing them right now. If I do get into movies by any chance, I certainly don’t want to be among those ‘one film wonders’ we have around,” she laughs.
As for her advice for young aspiring models, Vaishali says that criticism should never bog anyone down. “In this industry, you will be rejected a hundred times but that should not make you feel you are ugly. It’s the right attitude and humility that will take you places in the fashion world,” she sums up.
