“I did not receive any letter from the party leadership too. Hence the question of resigning from the post does not arise at all,” Belliyappa said addressing a press conference here on Wednesday.

“Even if they want me to resign from the post, JD(S) should withdraw the no confidence resolution taken against me. Leaders should ask my resignation only after the withdrawal of JD(S) resolution,” Belliyappa said. Handing over Town Panchayat president’s post is an internal agreement. But the agreement was an oral one and no written documents were signed in this regard. “Still I do not refuse to handover the power,” she asserted. However, a decision will be taken only after the withdrawal of no confidence resolution by the members, she added. To a question whether she had taken a decision to quit JD(S) and join BJP, Belliyappa said: “I did not think of changing the party so far. Right now, I am in JD(S). However, I cannot explain right now what political changes will take place in future.”

There are lot of opportunities before me. Moreover, I have the backing of party senior leaders. Hence, I will continue to be the president of the Panchayat, Belliyappa said.
“Members have the right to move no confidence motion if a president does not hold monthly meetings or involve in any corruption charges. What was the logic behind the no confidence movement made by JD(S) and Congress members against me even when there is no corruption charge against me,” she questioned.

“It requires courage for woman to continue in politics. I had entered politics to serve the society honestly without any corruption. However, the current political situation has hurt me a lot. Now I feel that politics is not suitable for honest people,” she lamented.

Harassment
“I was harassed by a senior politician, who served as Town Panchayat member and president for nearly 35 years. The same member had misappropriated funds by withdrawing Rs 1 lakh through Town Panchayat chief officer from the Vijaya Bank on May 2, 2000,” Belliyappa charged.

Those two JD(S) members who moved no confidence motion against me have criminal backgrounds. They were involved in the communal riots occurred in Virajpet two years ago.
