Addressing a press meet on Tuesday, Vedike State President K S Shivaramu said that it is a shame that such superstitious beliefs are being promoted even in the present technological era. This system promotes caste system and inequality and should be stopped immediately or else a massive protest will be held in the state by Dalit organisations, he warned.

Such religious performances are unconstitutional and against democracy. It is a shame that it is happening in Sumbramanya from where the Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda hails. The CM should immediately ban practices which promotes atrocities on Dalits in the name of religion, he said.

As a response to this practice, a protest meet will be held on December 4 at 11 am at Jaladarshini guest house in Mysore. Rajyotsava awardee and Litterateur Aravinda Malagathi will preside and progressive thinkers, Dalit Sangha leaders, litterateurs and social activists will participate, he said.

PIL

A Public Interest Litigation will be filed against the temple authorities in the Supreme Court so that this ritual will not be held next year, said Shivaramu.

The Pejawar seer Vishwateertha Swami is undertaking Satyagraha if atrocities are being held against Dalits. He also speaks for Dalits. “Let him speak against this ritual. This will prove if he is really concerned about Dalits,” said Shivramu. If the Pejawar seer does not  speak against this ritual and is being double stranded, then we shall hoist black flags in every programme he goes, he warned.

Kukke Subramanya Mutt Seer Vidhya Prasanna Teerthaswami is showing cheap mentality by supporting this ritual. First let him follow the ritual himself before supporting it, challenged Shivaramu. Seers are expected to teach people good values but they themselves are supporting superstitious beliefs. This is a bad example to the society and people should raise their voices against this, he said.
