Water has not collected in any waterbody owing to scanty rains. Some tanks have not received water for years together. The ponds are doing a vanishing act.
The festival, being celebrated with hovering clouds of drought, has thus posed a new challenge. With barely a day for the festival, people- students, several organisations are throning market to purchase the idols.

Irregular supply
City Municipality and the district administration are engaged in their own preparation. Organisations are competing with each other to observe the festival with grandeur and so are the students of schools and colleges. However, there is no water to immerse thousands of idols that would be installed on the occasion.

Deputy Commissioner has already suggested people to immerse the idols in buckets at houses itself. However, owing to irregular water supply, there might be few takers for this suggestion.

Amongst the tanks in the vicinity, Narasapura tank, located at a distance of 15 kilometers from the City is having some water.

Rest of the prominent and nearby tanks - Kolaramma tank, Ammeralli tank and Gaddekannur tanks have dried up completely. Parched bed of these waterbodies is visible and this rules out the possibility of immersing the idols at these places.
District administration and City Municipality are jointly making efforts for immersion of the idols in Venugopalaswamy pond at Tekal circle in the City, as is the practice.
No fresh water

Unfortunately, there is no fresh water in the pond, again owing to paucity of rains. The pond, filled with putrid water, plastic and algae , is now being cleaned to arrange for immersion.

Thus, it has become inevitable to immerse the idols in this otherwise bedraggled waterbody. Again, this has a problem. Since there is little water in the pond, idols of large size cannot be immersed in it. Thus, immersion of idols has become a challenge for people of the City this year.

The district has received scanty rains this year affecting the agricultural activities as well.
