<p>Hundreds of protesters, led by Shapooru Gram Panchayat vice president Neelamma, members Venkatamuniyappa and Nagappa, members of Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Raitha Sangha and Janavadi Mahila Sanghatane, staged a dharna in front of the Gram Panchayat on Wednesday. <br /><br />They alleged that the residents of Agrahara Somarasanahalli, Yaranghatta and Nandamballi have been facing acute shortage of drinking water in the past three-four months.The authorities have not taken any steps to address the crisis, which has become severe since the past two years, they complained. <br /><br />Another grouse that the villagers had against the officers was over delay in allotting sites, even months after submitting the applications. <br /><br />They also complained that the workers have not been paid their wages for the work taken up under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. <br /><br />The protest was withdrawn only after they got the assurance that the issues would be discussed at a meeting with the Panchayat leaders at 11 am on December 8. <br /><br />Janavadi Mahila Sanghatana district unit secretary V Geeta, DYFI district unit secretary M Vijayakrishna, DYFI leaders A V Ramesh, Subramani, farmers’ leaders Hollamballi Venkateshappa, Appayyanna, Tippasandra Gopal, G Anjanamma and Nagappa led the protest. <br /></p>
