Nine rounded up for murder of BJP leader

Last Updated 11 December 2011, 19:02 IST

Sources familiar with the investigation said that the police had more or less solved the crime. Police, however, are tight-lipped and have refused to divulge any details.

The ACP (Ulsoor Sub-division), N Narasimhaiah, admitted that Jagadish was the prime suspect, but denied that any arrests had been made formally. He further said that an  announcement would be made in a few days.

Murthy was the president of BJP SC Morcha, Mahadevapura, and was believed to be close to a former minister and sitting MLA. He dabbled in politics, money lending, and real estate.

Jagadish was involved in some real estate dealings with Murthy, but fell apart later. Among the dealings that soured the relationship between him and the victim was a four-acre plot in Chinnappanahalli. The plot is owned by Chandra Reddy, brother of a sitting MLA who represents KR Puram Assembly Constituency, sources say.

On December 1, 2011, hours before he was murdered, Murthy had spoken to his friends with whom he was playing golf at the Karnataka Golf Association in Kodihalli.  He talked about the alleged threats he received from a few politicians regarding his real estate dealings. According to credible sources, Murthy told his friends that he hoped the deal would get through later in the day.

Police have not ruled out other motives for the murder, sources add. Jagadish was said to be “close” to  Murthy’s wife Sudhamani, his former classmate and a former constable.

He also knew her sister Sujatha. According to sources, police suspect Jagadish and Sujatha were allegedly running a brothel.
