If the government approves the proposal at the earliest, then the 11 villages will get potable drinking water by December 2013. The work on Malavoor dam and the protection wall around it will be completed by January, said Zilla Panchayat Executive engineer Sathyanarayana to Deccan Herald.

Though the project of pumping water from river Shambhavi was handed over to a contractor and was asked to complete the work by May 2011, the work got delayed due to various reasons.

With the completion of the works, villages like Ulipady, Yelinje, Aikala, Thalipady, Nadugodlu, Kelinjaru, Mannabettu, Kondemula, Kemral, Bellayir, Padupanambur, Haleyangadi, Pavanje, Kilpady, Athikaribettu, Kavatharu, Semanthur, Yelathur will be receiving quality drinking water. The water from river Shambavi will be pumped through an intake well, which will be in the middle of the river, to the jack-well. From here, the water will go to the treatment plant from where treated water will be flown into the balancing reservoir.

The filtered water from the balancing reservoir will be distributed to the water tanks of the 17 villages. At present the work on treatment plant and intake well has been completed.

The works on laying pipelines have also been completed. The work on jack well will be taken up in January. Machineries will have to be procured to pump the water, said Executive Engineer.
