'More food safety officers needed'

The food safety and standards act has come into force in the state. The department is doing awareness campaigns to sensitise traders, hoteliers, retailers and people in food processing industry.

The department is facing shortage of food safety officers.

“We have sent a proposal to the government for the recruitment of food safety officers and providing training to them to effectively implement the act. The Act is self regulatory and should inspire the stakeholders to register with the Authority and comply with its guidelines,” says commissioner for Health  B S Ramaprasad.
