A day out for orphanage kids in real sense

Last Updated 25 December 2011, 11:15 IST

When the song ‘All is well’ from the popular bollywood blockbuster ‘Three Idiots’ was played the kids danced their hearts out.

They jumped and clap their hands in glee with each beat of the song. While some had picked the original steps of the dance, many opted to choreograph their own moves. The girls undoubtedly outshone the boys in the dance. The steps may have differed but what was common was a wide smile on their faces.

This was the scene during the Christmas party hosted for children from various orphanages by Fathima Retreat House, Valencia on Sunday. As many as 159 orphan kids had a day out.
It was a day when all the kids came together to laugh away their blues.

Fatima Retreat House under the guidance of Director Fr Ronnie Prabhu started conducting Christmas party for the orphans three years ago. The kids wearing colourful dresses were happy and were in a mood to celebrate the birth Jesus Christ.

“These kids do not have anybody for relatives. They feel left out because they see their counterparts in schools celebrating festivals with their family members. This prompted us to organise an exclusive Christmas party for these kids,” said Fatima Retreat House Director Fr Ronnie Prabhu.

During the event the kids are given various gifts like school bags, goodies, sweets and cakes.

The programme started with prayer by kids, followed by lighting the lamp by representatives of kids and Fr Ronnie Prabhu. Various entertainment programmes including dance, drama and songs made the event a memorable one.

The cultural programmes were followed by games for children who were divided into 12 groups. Children from Bhagini Samaj, Jeppu Market, Zeenath Baksh, Bunder, Infant Mary, Kulshekar and Bal Yesu Nilaya, Mary Hill took part in the programme.

A ten-year-old boy who was eager to join his counterparts in the games told Deccan Herald that he was happy to meet many more kids of his age. He was proud of having made couple of friends during the event. “My new friends are from other orphanage. We will look forward to meet one another again,” said the little boy.

This joy and satisfaction on the faces of the kids brought a great deal of happiness to the organizers because in this smile was the actual success of the programme.
