Shidlaghatta to host Sammelana for third time

Shidlaghatta is hosting the taluk Kannada Sahitya Sammelana for the third time. The Sammelana will be inaugurated by Sammelana president Kuchanna Srinivasan at Vasavi Kalyana Mantap on Monday.

The events will begin with the unfurling of the National flag, State flag and the flag of the Kannada Sahitya Parishat at 8 am. The Sammelana president will be taken in a procession, starting from Kote Circle in the town. The procession will cover major roads before reaching the venue, Vasavi Kalyana Mantap. The programmes at the venue will only start after 10.30 am.

First Sammelana

The first taluk Sammelana in Shidlaghatta was held in 2002, nine years ago. The second was held in 2007, five years after the first Sammelana. The third is being held after a span of four years.

The first Sammelana, held on August 6, 2002 at Vasavi Kalyana Mantap and was presided over by former Akashavani Director H V Ramachandra Rao.

The second Sammelana which was held on August 28, 2007 at Nagreshwara Kalyana Mantap was presided over by Humourist Narasimhamurthy.

In both the Sammelanas literary seminars, poets’ meet coupled with cultural programmes were organised.

The following people will be felicitated for their contributions to the society in various fields.
Dr D T Sathyanarayana Rao (Social service), Suvarnamma (Agriculture), B R Prakash (Kannada language), Nanjamma (Education), Y N Dasharathi (Religious), V Muniraju (Sports), M M Swamy (Theater), M Krishnappa (Social service), Dr Akkalappa (Medical) and Narayanswamy (Films).
