Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has condoled the death of Bangarappa, saying he would be remembered for his commitment and contribution to the welfare of backward classes.

In his message to Bangarappa's wife Shakunthala, the Prime Minister said: "I am deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of your husband. Bangarappa was a widely respected leader.”

Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Rahman Khan, in his condolence message, said Bangarappa was an able administrator and was concerned about the welfare of  backward classes and minorities.

Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda speaking to reporters in Bantwal described Bangarappa as one of the simplest and disciplined politician in the State.

Bangarappa would have strengthened the political scenario in the State, he said.
BJP General Secretary Ananth Kumar, in his condolence message, said several developmental schemes implemented by Bangarappa as chief minister were always remembered.

Employees of the State government held a condolence meeting at Karnataka Bhavan here. Former Minister H K Patil, Additional Special Representative to Karnataka Bykere Nagesh and Resident Commissioner Vandana Gurnani paid floral tributes to the departed soul.
