Mystery death of two jumbos

According to sources, a 15-year-old elephant was found dead in the backwaters of Kapila river near Bogeshwara camp forests in D B Kuppe Range in Nagarhole national park.
The forest staff who were on rounds spotted the elephant and informed the range forest officer.

Cause unknown

According to preliminary investigation, the pachyderm might have died without food owing to some disease. However, exact cause of its death will be known after the autopsy.

ACF Shivashankaregowda, RFO Hiremat and veterinarian Venkatram have visited the spot.In another incident, a 40-year elephant was found dead in Hediyala forest of Bandipur national park. The body was found in the agriculture land belonging to Gopalshetty.

This has led to the suspicion that the elephant might have been killed. The autopsy will be conducted on Thursday.
