The teachers’ association of a Delhi University’s college has levelled charges of corruption against its principal.

Dyal Singh college’s teachers’ association alleged that the principal crippled the college by aiding the unfair acquisition of land by Delhi Metro, which did not ensure adequate compensation.

“An employee committed suicide when he was fired after some parents complained that he was selling admission forms at high rates. The employee was not even given a chance to tell his side of the story. Then Delhi Metro was given half an acre of land without safeguarding college’s interest,” said Kedar Kumar Mandal, president of the teacher’s association.

“There is no playground for students or land to construct a girls’ hostel. The science block has no approval from the MCD, fire department and Delhi Urban Arts Commission and the tender was awarded prior to the approval of building plan,” Mandal added.

While principal, I S Bakshi said all documents related to construction of science block were well in place and sustained efforts and talks with Delhi government were being carried out to acquire land for the playground and hostel.

“The employee who was fired did not commit suicide but unfortunately came under a running train. Also, he was found guilty after an inquiry and thus action was taken against him,” said Bakshi.

The teachers also alleged that there is a delay in payment of pension and adhocism in the college. Teachers and students were not allowed to voice their opinions freely. “There is police presence inside the college campus. Countless memos are issued to students and teachers without a valid explanation, sustaining adhocism, out of the 200 teaching staff, 70 are ad hoc,” said Mandal.

Brushing aside the allegations, Bakshi said, “The teachers want to discuss issues which are not under their purview. They are against development and don’t want to take classes.”
