A resident of Nagawarpalya, Deepak (23), took almost everyone for a ride at the Yelahanka Air Force base, claiming to be a flight lieutenant. He enjoyed the IAF’s hospitality, along with his wife, for 10 days. Based on a formal complaint by the Air Force authorities, Deepak was later traced and arrested. Police said the accused confessed to have ventured into crime and dared to take up room at the air base for over ten days from August 9 to impress his wife.

His father was employed with HAL and, as a child, Deepak had a fancy for aeroplanes and helicopters. When he grew up he worked on ad hoc arrangements during air shows and developed contacts. He was also well versed with the ranks, badges and uniforms. Besides, his knowledge and topography of the air base gave him an edge.

Deepak was already married when he bumped into his high school mate Princy Priya who worked for a star hotel. After he learnt Princy was single, he tried to impress her by claiming he was a flight lieutenant at the Ambala Air Force base.
