While laying the foundation stone of a community centre in Civil Lines area on Tuesday, Union Minister for Human Resource Development and Telecom Kapil Sibal highlighted the development work carried out in the city by the Delhi government.

He added that it could do much better if people give the Congress party a majority in Municipal elections as well.

Drawing parallels between the people’s representatives at various levels and three wheels of an auto-rickshaw, Sibal said the Congress party has MLAs and MPs as two wheels, while the third wheel in terms of corporators should also be from the same party.

“Give us the third wheel too, we will move the auto-rickshaw faster,” said Sibal.

He further said that the Congress stands for bringing Goods and Services Tax (GST) for levying uniform taxes across the country but are not being able to do so due to resistance from the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Addressing the gathering, Sibal further said problems of electricity, water, sanitation, school and health concern the common man and therefore, there should be time-bound solutions to these problems. “Education should not be costly. We have to build the nation. The foundation of a country gets strengthened only when each family prospers and the common man is happy,” he said.

Sibal laid down the foundation stone of a community centre at C-Block of Gandhi Vihar in Civil Lines Zone.

It will be constructed at an approximate cost of Rs 2.6 crore. The centre is likely to be completed in one year.
